After the Orgy

Today we are threatened by a lethal sunstroke - the ceaseless feedback of all information.

M Day
When midnight is struck on Friday December 1st 1999, computer clocks will roll over from 99 to 00. They will know what time it is, but not what century. This could cause chaos in banks, factories, refineries, traffic lights, air traffic control and hundreds of thousands of time-based calculations.

"The whole of our history bears witness to the machinery of reason, which is itself now coming apart. Our culture of meaning is collapsing beneath the excess of meaning, the culture of reality collapsing beneath the excess of reality, the information culture collapsing beneath the excess of information - the sign and reality sharing a single shroud." Jean Baudrillard, The Perfect Crime

As for ideas, everyone has them. More than they need.

A Story
Last year, we were performing at a festival in Buenos Aires. During a break, I took a walk along the busy pavements of the capital city. I could hardly believe my eyes - up ahead of me was Jean Baudrillard. I was aware that he was in town, but to see him on the streets... I raced to catch up... he changed direction... I followed... he changed again and once more I followed. I cleared my throat, about to shout - something like "Hey Jean" - and then he was gone. Disappeared. Before my very eyes, he had disappeared. The next day, I woke up and I had chickenpox.

Existence is something we must not consent to. It has been given to us as a consolation prize.
