Private
Lives by Noël Coward is one of the most popular comedies written
in the English language. Seventy years after its original production,
Volcano Theatre Company replays this comedy of appalling manners in
a crumbling hospice-cum-residential-home for lost souls. Volcano’s Private
Lives mourns the demise of a class of spangling dilettantes and
the passing of an era of cocktails and double-entendre, playing beneath
the immaculate surface of Coward’s light and brittle backchat, this
show reveals four bewildered characters going through the motions of
falling in and out of love.
Private
Lives opened on 28 March 2001 at the
Dolman Theatre, Newport, and toured throughout Wales for four weeks.
It played at the British Council Showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
in August 2001. The show remains available for international touring.
