A series of exchanges between investigative performing arts organisations working in creative hubs across Europe. What does European citizenship look and feel like from perspectives generally characterized as marginal in relation to centres of power and influence? Beginning from practices and conditions in common across diverse geographic, economic, political, cultural and linguistic contexts, the project begins to interrogate and deconstruct the model of centres and peripheries and envisages creative practice as constitutive of active citizenship in the new Europe.
Building on connections developed across a range of European projects, exchanges and festivals, Swansea’s Volcano Theatre teams up with Catalan and Greek performing arts practitioners who work in different environments and contexts but who share the experience of creating professional and international touring and site-specific work from independent community creative hubs.
