Exploring Place

Fri 02 Nov 2018 to Fri 30 Nov 2018

MIKE HILL has worked as a wildlife illustrator and animation background artist for many years, but sculpture has become the main focus of his practice.

Working in wood, metal, stone and found objects, Mike draws inspiration from the coastal landscape of Swansea and Gower, seeking to embody its transient fragility within his sculpture.

The starting point for Mike’s current body of work is Swansea Bay. A walk on the beach becomes a journey of exploration. Shifting sands and elemental forces of nature, a multi-layered history emerges through found fragments.

Brightly coloured plastic, pieces of porcelain, soles and bones are among the assortment of objects that come together in Mike’s work to create playful narratives.
