10:00 at GLYNN VIVIAN GALLERY
Alexandra Rd, Swansea SA1 5DZ
The young people from Volcano's two children's movement groups have been creating a short performance especially for the Glynn Vivian Gallery.
'There are many artistic approaches to making a dance piece and what you see today is movement crafted by the children's own imaginations and bodies. In the context of the Gallery space I call it 'Children's Art'. They have chewed over and digested art works made by Andy Goldsworthy, Anthony Gormley, Barbara Hepworth and Rachel Whiteread. The children have made their own bodies come alive with ideas and organised their bodies to communicate the meaning of gesture and the structure of rhythm in art. The edges of what I think dance should be are soft. I am much more interested in encouraging their bodies to express the imprint of their own imaginations. They are creating a commentary of what they see, feel and hear. they are expanding the contract between what they know, and what they don't know, inside and outside.' Catherine Bennett, Movement Director
We hope you enjoy your very own sculpture coming alive!
